More Able, Gifted & Talented

At Birchwood Primary we believe that all children should strive towards fulfilling their potential through a creative curriculum which encourages all to achieve significantly above their peers nationally and demonstrate each individual’s ‘Passion For Learning.’  Lessons are differentiated to cater for all abilities.  However, we acknowledge that some children have gifts and talents which need to be fostered, sometimes through extra - curricular activities.  Each child that has been identified as being gifted or talented has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP), which maps the provision that Birchwood prescribes to engender and further excellence in these talents.  PLP’s are shared with parents and pupils on a termly basis and are used daily to personalise learning in day to day sessions.  We offer a variety of curricular and extra – curricular opportunities to cater for our gifted and talented students.

In January 2016, we changed our Year 2-Year 6 teaching provision to subject specialist teaching. This means that the children are being taught by the most skilled professional in the school for the subjects of PE, Music, RE, Art & DT, PSHE, Humanities and Forest School.
